The Market Always Looks Out Six Months?
How many times have you heard that commentary on Wall Street? The market discounts what is going to happen in six months, not how business is today, right? Usually, that is reserved for when business is soft, stocks are soft and an optimist wants to say it will all look better in six months. In fact, why not say 2024 looks better than 2023 at this juncture. Sounds reasonable sitting here today. Is it? Well, right now the economy appears “fine” with some pockets of weakness, some downward EPS revisions and generally positive leaning soft landing type economic data. In six months? The boogeyman says it is going to be a debacle! The Fed is going to engineer their inflation busting campaign by crushing the economy. Maybe, maybe not? Regardless, I think we are in unchartered territory and here is why.
